About the Inversion System

The WeatherHawk Inversion system monitors and records wind speed, wind direction, relative humidity and air temperature at two levels to alert for a temperature inversion. The system ships with four sensors ready to install onto an optional 30 ft permanent tower, 30 ft portable mast, or on an existing 30ft tower. Weather Inversion software displays, graphs and logs measurements and provides a visual indicator when an inversion occurs.

Thermal Fogging Applications

When a thermal inversion occurs, cool air near the earth’s surface is trapped under the warmer air mass above it.  During an inversion, if wind speeds are low, ideal conditions for thermal fogging operations exist.  The inversion system sends data to the software where alarms can be set to alert abatement managers via SMS text messaging or email when optimal spraying conditions exist.  During these conditions, abatement managers can more effectively manage resources by fogging when materials are suspended in the air for longer periods of time and near the ground where mosquitoes are in flight.  Knowing the weather conditions will also allow for better use of resources as costly materials are not lost due to strong winds.

"Cold Fogging" and Adulticiding Applications

Mosquito abatement managers spend a great deal of time and money on chemical applications to control mosquito populations using cold fogging or adulticiding ultra-low volume (or ULV) equipment.  This method of mosquito abatement is performed at dusk and dawn. Some ULV formulations are more effective in warmer temperatures while others are formulated for colder temperatures.  Real-time data collection and display will allow abatement resource managers to know which product to use at the right time. The WeatherHawk Inversion system enables abatement managers to use real-time weather data to help them decide the correct ULV formulation for their coverage areas.

WeatherHawk Inversion Software

The WeatherHawk Inversion software is both Mac and PC compatible. It is easy to install and use.  Software will display upper and lower air temperature, wind speed, wind direction, and relative humidity.  Logs, graphs and displays real-time and historic weather data.  Software will send screen alerts and SMS text messages when a temperature inversion occurs.

Concerned About installation?

A two-person minimum is required for set-up. Typical first time system setup takes about two hours, including software installation, configuration and sensor installation.  Subsequent set-up for portable systems usually takes about an hour.
