All updates to WeatherHawk weather station software and firmware are FREE to system owners. Most updates are released as downloads from this web site. If you are an existing WeatherHawk system owner, and cannot download software, please contact us and we will send you a CD with the latest update at no charge.

WeatherHawk-XP/X Software Single User Application

Software releases beginning with Version 2.x.x add a number of new features including:

Virtual Weather Station (VWS) Single User Application

To determine your version of Virtual Weather Station, open VWS and go to: Help - About Virtual Weather Station. The current version of Virtual Weather Station (VWS) is v.12.07 p56, released in June 2006, and it is available as a download from this website. If you have any other version we recommend that you install the update.

If you cannot download software please contact WeatherHawk Customer Service and an update CD will be mailed to you at no charge. Please have the Software Key printed on your original VWS CD available when you call as confirmation that you are the licensed owner of this software.

NOTES:

1. When you update VWS it will preserve all of your settings and data files except for the Communications Update Rate. The Communications Update Rate will be reset to 10 seconds. If you have a wireless, solar powered WeatherHawk it is recommended that you set this update rate at 60 seconds, and no shorter than 30 seconds. To set the Communications Update Rate go to: Communications and input the desired rate in seconds.

2. After updating your software it may take several minutes for the system to connect to the WeatherHawk for the first time. Once the initial connection is made the system will function as it did previously. VWS for WeatherHawk is a special version of Virtual Weather Station (VWS) by Ambient, LLC. Users of the generic version of VWS sold by Ambient, LLC should not install the WeatherHawk update. VWS (generic) and VWS-WeatherHawk are not compatible applications. Users of VWS (generic) should contact Ambient, LLC for updates to their software.

If you ever have any problems with a system or software upgrade, please call WeatherHawk for assistance, or contact your nearest WeatherHawk Service Center. If you do not feel qualified to accomplish this upgrade we will be happy to do it for you at no charge other than the shipping costs. WeatherHawk Weather Station OS and Program Versions

To check the WeatherHawk OS and data logger program you must use a PC to communicate directly with the weather station. If you have an Apple computer for your WeatherHawk you can use the same CD in a PC to access the WeatherHawk communications utility.

Version 03a Update:

DO NOT USE this OS and Program update if your WeatherHawk has been modified for a special application, or if it connects to a WeatherTalk system, or if it is wireless and has the V.04a, or later operating system (V.05a is the current release). For modified WeatherHawk system OS and program updates contact WeatherHawk Technical Support directly.

To determine your OS and Program versions follow these steps:

1. Close all programs on your PC and connect directly to your WeatherHawk weather station RS-232 serial port.

2. Go to the PakCom data logger communications program supplied with your software. If your software is Virtual Weather Station (VWS) this is located at: C:\vws\Weatherhawk\pakcom.exe, and open the program. If your software was installed in a different directory or you are using WeatherHawk-XP/X software you can use the Windows search function to locate pakcom.exe.

3. Select the communications port

4. Change the Logger Address to anything but 1 and hit Read Address. The logger address for your station should appear. The default address is 1 and this is a valid response if you did not change the logger address during your initial set-up.

5. On the PakCom Main Menu bar select Tools - Logger Status

6. The OS Version should be: v03a

7. The Program Name should be: WX-SI-05.CR2

If you have an earlier OS version you should update your WeatherHawk operating system and program to v03a, unless your system has a special OS/Program version. The files to complete this update are below, with the update procedure. DO NOT use this update if your OS is v04a or later

NOTE: If your archive files are not current we recommend that you download the data in your WeatherHawk and note the current set-up values for Longitude, Latitude, Altitude, Logger Address and Radio Set-up (if your system is wireless). Updating the OS and Program will erase the system data logger memory and reset all data logger set-up values to the defaults.

This OS/Program update will accomplish the following:

1. The OS update enables you to run the latest version of the WeatherHawk system program.

2. The Program update incorporates the following new user features in the weather station:

(a) Adds a power management feature that protects the battery pack from damage due to deep discharge. The new program will terminate wireless radio transmissions if the battery voltage falls below 11.5 volts DC for more than 1 hour, and measurements will cease at battery voltages below 6.5 volts. Normal system operation will be restored as the battery voltage rises above the power management thresholds and stays above them for 1 hour. NOTE: Data stored in memory is not lost when the system ceases to function, or power is lost.

(b) Increases data logger storage capacity from ~22 days of data to 65.5 days of hourly station sensor measurement data, and 291 days of daily archive data (Min/Max/Avg).

(d) Barometric pressure measurement is averaged over 1 minute.

Version 05a Update:

DO NOT USE this OS and Program update if your WeatherHawk has been modified for a special application, or if it connects to a WeatherTalk system, or if it has the v.03a, or earlier operating system and is a wireless weather station (Ver.05 is the current release). Updating v.03a or earlier with this OS and Program will disable the wireless communications feature in your WeatherHawk system.
